Gulf countries enjoys high sun radiation all year long which make them a perfect location for solar power facilities. All over those countries, several projects, worth $155 billion, are already planned to produce 84 gigawatts. Solar is one of the main goal in the Gulf area as, later this year, leaders from Gulf countries will meet to discuss an important solar project in the desert.
From September 3rd to 5th, a summit will take place in Dubai. Several subject will be discussed like:
- The feasibility of solar projects on remote places
- Opportunities for foreign companies to implement solar project in the region
- Regulations to frame solar projects
Gulf countries have already shown interest in solar energy. Saudi Arabia plans to double its solar energy to 54 gigawatts by 2032. As for Qatar, an transition in the water desalination process from on-grid to solar power is schedule. Solar energy should represent 10% of the generated energy for this activity by 2018. Kuwait had also commit to increase by 10% the share of renewable energy on its overall electricity production.
